V) FORMAT

NO TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE ADDED AFTER MARCH 31ST, 2017 OR UNTIL WE HAVE REACHED THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF TEAMS, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.

INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO JOIN THE LEAGUE AT ANY TIME DURING THE REGULAR SEASON AS LONG AS THEY WILL BE ABLE TO THROW 400 SHOES (20 PER GAME EQUALS 20 GAMES) BEFORE THE END OF THE REGULAR SEASON.

*NO PLAYERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE TEAMS DURING THE SEASON. HOWEVER, IF A TEAM DROPS OUT AND IS TERMINATED FROM THE LEAGUE AND A SINGLE PLAYER WISHES TO JOIN ANOTHER TEAM, EXCEPTIONS CAN BE MADE ONLY WITH BOARD APPROVAL.

EACH WEEKLY MATCH WILL CONSIST OF SIX GAMES EACH WEEK TO BE PLAYED BY TWO, THREE, OR FOUR PLAYERS PER TEAM. A MAXIMUM OF FOUR PLAYERS PER TEAM CAN BE PLAYED EACH WEEK. EVERY GAME THROWN IS PARTNER/DOUBLES TYPE FORMAT. EACH GAME WILL END WHEN 40 SHOES PER TEAM HAS BEEN THROWN (20 SHOES PER PLAYER). THE HIGHEST SCORE AFTER 40 SHOES, AFTER THE HANDICAP HAS BEEN APPLIED, SHALL WIN THAT GAME. ONCE A TEAM STARTS A GAME WITH A PAIR OF HORSESHOES, THEY MUST COMPLETE THAT GAME WITH THOSE SHOES. IF A SHOE BREAKS, THE USE OF A NEW PAIR IS PERMITTED. GAMES MAY BE PLAYED WITH ANY HORSESHOE THEY CHOOSE. A MINIMUM OF TWO PLAYERS PER SIX GAME MATCH IS REQUIRED. HOWEVER, NO TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY WITH TWO PLAYERS MORE THAN TWO CONSECUTIVE WEEKS OF PLAY. IF A THIRD WEEK IN A ROW IS NEEDED, THAT TEAM WITH FORFEIT THE MATCH IF IT CANNOT BE MADE UP BY THE FOLLOWING SUNDAY. TEAMS SHALL ALWAYS FIELD THREE OR FOUR PLAYERS PER WEEK IF POSSIBLE.

THIS IS A HANDICAPPED LEAGUE. INDIVIDUAL RINGER PERCENTAGES WILL BE CALCULATED BY CAPITANS AND POINTS WILL BE SPOTTED TO THE TEAM WITH THE LOWER COMBINED RINGER PERCENTAGES. PLAYERS WILL USE RINGER PERCENTAGES FROM THE PREVIOUS SEASON FOR THE FIRST WEEK OF THE NEW SEASON. IF A NEW PLAYER HAS JOINED THE LEAGUE, HIS/HER RINGER PERCENTAGE WILL BE CALCULATED AT THE END OF THEIR FIRST NIGHT. IN THIS CASE YOU WILL NOT KNOW THE HANDICAP UNTIL THE END OF THE MATCH.

- LAST YEAR'S RINGER PERCENTAGE WILL BE CALCULATED INTO THIS YEARS FIRST WEEK OF PLAY TO DETERMINE THE PERCENTAGE GOING INTO WEEK TWO. WEEK #THREE AND THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASONS RINGER PERCENTAGES WILL BE CALCULATED BY WHAT WAS THROWN FOR THE CURRENT SEASON, (YTD).

EACH TEAM WILL RECEIVE ONE WIN FOR EACH GAME THEY WIN. THERE IS A POTENTIAL OF SIX WINS PER WEEK. IN THE EVENT OF A TIE AFTER 40 SHOES HAVE BEEN THROWN, EACH TEAM WILL RECEIVE 1/2 WIN. TOTAL WINS WILL BE RECORDED. THE TEAM WITH THE HIGHEST WINS AT THE END OF THE REGULAR SEASON WILL BE FIRST PLACE AND SO ON. IF ALL TEAMS PLAY THE SAME NUMBER OF GAMES, HIGHEST WINS EQUALS HIGHEST PLACE. DIFFERENT NUMBER OF GAMES PLAYED BUT SAME NUMBER OF WINS, THE HIGHER WINNING PERCENTAGE WILL BE THE HIGHER SEED.

*HIGHEST WIN PERCENTAGE WILL ONLY BE APPLICABLE IF WE HAVE AN ODD NUMBER OF TEAMS AND THERE IS AT LEAST ONE RAINOUT WEEK.

VI) SCORING/HANDICAPS

A POINT IS MEASURED USING THE TOUCH SHOE PROCEDURE. THIS IS EXACTLY HOW IT SOUNDS, IF YOU CAN HOLD A HORSESHOE UP AGAINST THE PIN AND IT TOUCHES THE SHOE BEING MEASURED, IT IS A POINT. THE WIDER SHOE IN PLAY SHALL BE USED TO MEASURE FOR POINTS. THE CLOSEST HORSHOE TO THE PIN IS AWARDED THE POINT. IF TWO SHOES FROM A TEAM ARE CLOSEST, THE TEAM RECEIVES TWO POINTS. A LEANER (A SHOE TOUCHING THE PIN) IS ONLY ONE POINT (PENNY).

A RINGER IS MEASURED USING THE TOUCH PROCEDURE AS WELL. THIS MEANS IF YOU CAN PASS A STRAIGHT EDGE FROM TIP TO TIP OF THE HORSESHOE AND THE STRAIGHT EDGE DOES NOT TOUCH THE PIN IT IS A RINGER. A THREE POINT TOUCH IS NOT A RINGER. THERE MUST BE A PAPER THIN GAP. A RINGER IS WORTH THREE POINTS. IF EACH TEAM THROWS A RINGER, THIS IS A COVER AND NO POINTS ARE AWARDED FOR THOSE SHOES. THE TEAM THAT COVERED WILL GO FIRST ON THE NEXT THROW. A RINGER AND A POINT IS WORTH FOUR POINTS. A RINGER EACH AND A POINT IS ONLY ONE POINT. TWO RINGERS IS SIX POINTS. THREE RINGERS (2 FOR 1 TEAM AND 1 FOR THE OTHER PLAYER) IS WORTH THREE POINTS, AKA 3 ON 3. FOUR RINGERS, AKA FOUR DEAD, IS NO POINTS.

A STRAIGHT EDGE IS THE PROPER TOOL FOR MEASURING POINTS AND RINGERS. IF THERE IS A DISCREPANCY ON SCORING, HAVE A NEUTRAL PARTY DO THE MEASURING. OTHER ITEMS ARE NOT TO BE USED TO MEASURE FOR RINGERS OR POINTS (I.E. PICKUP HOOKS, CLIPBOARDS, OTHER HORSESHOES, ETC).

IF THERE IS AN OPEN PIT, THE TEAM THAT SHOT FIRST ON LAST THROW WILL SHOOT FIRST AGAIN. THE TEAM THAT SCORES WILL ALWAYS THROW FIRST ON THE NEXT THROW. IF YOU THROW OUT OF TURN, ANY POINTS WILL NOT COUNT. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION. ALL SHOES THROWN MUST BE RECORDED ON THE SCORESHEET FOR THAT GAME. MARK THE SCORESHEET COLUMN FOR DOWN AND BACK WITH EITHER 1, 2, X, X1 OR XX AND ADD THE SCORED AMOUNT AS NECESSARY. ALL RINGERS MUST BE RECORDED INCLUDING ALL COVERS AND RINGERS THROWN BY ALL PLAYERS.

TEAMS MUST SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF KEEPING SCORE ON THE SCORESHEETS. EVERY PLAYER SHOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP SCORE. BOTH TEAMS WILL SCORE THREE GAMES EACH IF BOTH TEAMS HAVE AT LEAST THREE PLAYERS. CAPTAINS SHOULD BE ABLE TO WORK THIS OUT BETWEEN THE TWO TEAMS PLAYING.

HANDICAPS FOR THIS LEAGUE ARE BASED ON A 60% HANDICAP. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO TEAM PLAYERS COMBINED AVERAGES FOR THAT GAME IS MULTIPLIED BY 60% AND ROUNDED UP TO THE NEAREST WHOLE NUMBER AND THIS IS THE AMOUNT OF POINTS GIVEN TO THE TEAM WITH THE LOWER COMBINED AVERAGE TO START THE GAME. THIS IS CALCULATED FOR EACH GAME ONE-SIX. IF THE POINT NUMBER IS 0.50 OR HIGHER YOU ROUND UP AND IF THE NUMBER IS 0.49 OR LOWER YOU ROUND DOWN.

VII) FOUL

* YOUR FOOT CANT  GO OVER THE FOUL LINE BEFORE THE HORSESHOE IS RELEASED. IF YOUR FOOT GOS OVER THE FOUL LINE BEFORE YOUR SHOE IS RELEASED, THE SHOE WILL NOT COUNT.

THE FOUL LINE IS THE LINE THREE FEET IN FRONT OF THE PIN. THE FOUL LINE IS AT THE END OF THE RUNWAYS FOR ALL WOMEN AND MEN OVER 70 YEARS OF AGE. ALL WOMEN AND MEN OVER 70 ARE PERMITTED TO PITCH FROM 30 FEET. IF YOU CONTINUE TO FOUL, YOU MAY NEED TO TAKE A STEP BACK.

VIII) PLAYOFF AND TROPHY ELIGIBILITY

A PLAYER MUST THROW 400 SHOES (20 GAMES) TO BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE ANY TROPHIES OR AWARDS. IF THE 400 SHOES MARK IS NOT REACHED BY THE END OF THE REGULAR SEASON, THE PLAYER WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE IN THE END OF THE YEAR PLAYOFFS.

THE TOP 16 TEAMS AT THE END OF THE REGULAR SEASON WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PLAYOFFS. IF ONE OF THE 16 BOWS OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS OR IS IN-ELIGIBLE TO PLAY FOR ANY REASON, THEIR PLACE IN THE PLAYOFF BRACKET WILL GO TO THE NEXT HIGHEST TEAM GIVEN THERE IS NOT A TIE FOR THAT TEAM.

ALL TEAMS PLAYING IN THE PLAYOFFS MUST FIELD A MINIMUM OF THREE PLAYERS DURING EACH MATCH OF THE PLAYOFFS. IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE, THEY MUST PLAY WITH A GHOST OF THEIR CHOICE FROM THEIR OWN TEAM.

THE FIRST TEAM WITH FOUR WINS OR THREE AND A HALF, GIVEN IT IS A SIX GAME FORMAT, WILL MOVE ON. IF IT IS THREE TO THREE AFTER SIX GAMES, A GAME SEVEN WILL BE NEEDED. IF THAT RESULTS IN A TIE, IT GOES TO GAME EIGHT AND SO ON.

 IX) START TIME

MATCHES WILL START AT 6:30 PM ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS FOLLOWING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM BEING PLAYED. NO MATCHES WILL START ANY LATER THAN 7:00 PM. IF YOUR TEAM IS LATE AND MUST START LATER THAN 7:00 PM, YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE IT UP WITHIN FOUR DAYS. IF IT IS NOT MADE UP WITHIN FOUR DAYS A FORFEIT WILL TAKE PLACE. (REFER TO FORFEIT SECTION OF THE RULES)

MUST MAKE SURE ALL PAPERWORK IS FILLED OUT FOR EACH GAME, HOME/AWAY, DOWN/BACK, AND HANDICAPS ARE CORRECT. MAKE SURE ALL MONEY IS IN THE ENVELOPE WITH SCORESHEETS AND TURN IT IN AT THE END OF EACH NIGHT.

XI) CAPTAINS RESPONSIBILITIES

CAPTAINS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM. THEY NEED TO FILL OUT THE LINE-UP THEY ARE PLAYING FOR THE SIX GAMES IN THAT MATCH. THEY WILL NEED TO MAKE SURE ALL PLAYERS FOR THEIR TEAM PLAY EQUAL AMOUNTS OF GAMES FOR THAT MATCH. THIS SHOULD ALWAYS BE 3 OR 4 GAMES EACH DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS PLAYING THAT MATCH. THEY NEED TO MAKE SURE THE RINGER PERCENTAGES AND HANDICAPS ARE ENTERED FOR THEIR TEAM ON THE LINE-UP PAGE AND SCORESHEET.

XII) RAIN

* AFTER  A BOARD MEETING ON 6-1-17 THE RAIN RULE HAS BEEN CLARIFIED. THERE WILL BE NO PLAY IN LIGHTNING PERIOD .IN THE EVENT OF LIGHTNING OR RAIN WE WILL MEET IN CLUB AND WAIT AN HALF AN HOUR FOR WEATHER TO CLEAR IF IT HASNT THE BOARD WILL MEET WITH CAPTAINS TO DISCUSS WHAT WE WILL DO WITH SHEDULING.

* IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL CAPTAINS AND PLAYERS SHOW UP READY TO PLAY RAIN OR SHINE.

* HORSESHOES WILL NOT BE PLAYED IN THE EVENT OF LIGHTNING

A CAPTAINS MEETING AND VOTE WILL DECIDE IF PLAYING IN THE RAIN WILL TAKE PLACE. IF A WEEKLY MATCH HAS ALREADY BEGUN AND A RAINSTORM/THUNDERSTORM OCCURS NO PLAYERS OR CAPTAINS SHALL LEAVE UNTIL A CAPTAIN'S MEETING HAS TAKEN PLACE TO DECIDE IF PLAY WILL CONTINUE. ANY CAPTAIN OR TEAM THAT LEAVES BEFORE THIS IS DECIDED WILL LOSE POINTS FOR THAT WEEK.

XIII) FORFEITS

NO TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED TO FORFEIT A MATCH. IF A TEAM CANNOT MAKE IT ONE WEEK IT MUST BE MADE UP WITHIN FOUR DAYS. IF THE MATCH IS NOT MADE UP THEN THE FORFEITING TEAM WILL BE TERMINATED FROM THE LEAGUE. THE OPPOSING TEAM WILL RECEIVE AN AVERAGE OF THEIR WINS (AT ANY POINT IN THE SEASON) ROUNDING TO THE NEAREST 1/2 POINT. ANY TEAM SCHEDULED TO PLAY THE FORFEITED TEAM WILL HAVE A BYE AND ALSO RECEIVE AN AVERAGE OF THEIR WINS (AT THAT POINT IN THE SEASON) ROUNDING TO THE NEAREST 1/2 POINT. THIS RULE IS IN PLACE TO KEEP TEAMS FROM FORFEITING MATCHES. REMEMBER ONE FORFEIT AND YOUR TEAM IS HISTORY.

A MAXIMUM OF TWO MAKE-UP MATCHES IS ALLOWED FOR ANY TEAM. WE ARE COMMITTED TO WEDNESDAY NIGHTS AND IT IS AN INCONVENIENCE FOR OTHERS TO MAKE UP MATCHES. PLEASE TRY NOT TO HAVE ANY MAKE-UP MATCHES. THIS MAKES THE LEAGUE RUN SMOOTHER WHEN NO MATCHES NEED TO BE MADE UP. AFTER TWO MAKE-UP MATCHES A TEAM WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MAKE UP ANOTHER MATCH. THE TEAM WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE LEAGUE IF A THIRD MAKE-UP MATCH IS NEEDED.

XIV) BYES

IF THERE IS AN ODD NUMBER OF TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE, EACH TEAM WILL RECEIVE A BYE.

* NO WINS ARE AWARDED FOR THE BYE WEEK.

EACH TEAM WILL STILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THEIR $16.00 FOR THE BYE WEEK BY THE FOLLOWING WEEK OF PLAY.
